"随着我国经济社会的不断发展，各行业对精通专业技术和具备一定外语能力的复合型人才产生了巨大需求。根据教育部高等教育司颁布的《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求》，高等职业教育培养的是技术、生产、管理、服务等领域的高等应用型专门人才，英语教学要遵循“实用为主、够用为度”的原则，在打好基础的同时注重培养学生实践能力，突出实用性和实践性，接近真实岗位和工作需要，实现理论与实践一体化。本书依据各行业对从业人员英语水平的要求并结合我校各个专业的需求编写，从学生的实际情况出发，旨在使学生熟悉本专业的英语词汇，了解本专业的前沿发展动态，培养学生在实际工作岗位上运用专业英语的能力。本书以专业划分为8部分，共 37章，每一章节均按照以下内容进行编排：第一部分——基础词汇（Basic Terms），涵盖了所学章节的重要词汇及常用表达，以 了解和掌握专业术语的英文表达，并为后续的学习抛砖引玉。第二部分——实用英语（Practical English），囊括了大量图表、产品说明书、机器操作等贴近企业生活的实例，为学生未来步入工作岗位打下良好基础。第三部分——文章（Reading），内容力求反映各个专业方面的新知识，展示专业方面的新技术和成果等。文章中英文对照，方便自学，也降低了教学难度。
