“博雅”学科英语系列教程属于大学英语高阶课程教材,供非英语专业学生使用。一般情况下,学生在完成三个学期的基础英语课程学习后,在第四学期开始该教程的学习。
1. 该教程属于通识英语类教材。通识英语(ELE,即English for Liberal Education)以英语语言为载体,以人类文明、科学、文化发展为主题,有内容、有深度,以拓展学生的知识视野、提升学生的人文素养和批判性思维能力为目的。是一种特殊形式的“专门用途英语”。
2. 人文素养的提升和思维能力训练是教程编写的指导思路。“人文素养”决定了教程主题虽然与学科相关,但具体内容并非为深奥的专业知识,而是更近似于本学科的科普类教材。“思维能力训练”则要求练习设计摆脱传统语言教材模式,强调对课文内容的反思和知识的运用。
