“博雅”学科英语系列教程属于大学英语高阶课程教材，供非英语专业学生使用。一般情况下，学生在完成三个学期的基础英语课程学习后，在第四学期开始该教程的学习。
1. 该教程属于通识英语类教材。通识英语（ELE，即English for Liberal Education）以英语语言为载体，以人类文明、科学、文化发展为主题，有内容、有深度，以拓展学生的知识视野、提升学生的人文素养和批判性思维能力为目的。是一种特殊形式的“专门用途英语”。
