《大学英语:读与写》包含一个基础测试和九个单元的学习内容。
  《大学英语:读与写》的一部分是有关写作基础的诊断性测试,主要检测学生对英语高频词汇、基础语法、标点符号及文稿格式的掌握情况。设置该部分的目的是让学生了解自己之前学习中的薄弱环节,并能辅以有针对性的训练以提高自身基础英语水平,为后面的单元学习做好准备。
  单元学习内容按照课文主题和写作特点共分为九个单元。在每个单元内,又分阅读(语言输入)和写作(语言输出)两个部分。阅读部分包括课文和练习两个板块,从思想内容和语言两个方面给学生提供输入。写作部分包含重要知识点的精讲、分项练习及写作输出任务。《大学英语:读与写》九个单元写作知识点的选取均以《大学英语教学指南》为纲。一单元至第六单元围绕基础英语写作,主要涉及英语段落的组织和展开、不同体裁及概要的写作。第七单元至第九单元从学生的实际生活和将来工作的需求出发,囊括了个人简历、求职申请信、演讲稿和论文摘要等类型的实用性及学术性写作。《大学英语:读与写》每单元的写作练习紧扣知识点,由浅入深、由易及难,循序渐进地帮助学生掌握单元重点和难点。而写作输出任务则充分体现了读写结合的教学理念,要求学生综合运用单元目标知识和写作技巧完成特定题目的篇章写作。
